Welcome to Inspirations of Life….

What inspires you?

Each day we have an opportunity to receive and share the inspirations of all that surrounds us. We share in the bounty of a world waiting for us to be more aware of its gifts. We move through the stories that are unique to our experience, all the while remaining always connected to the collective experience. The trick is to be present and to remain open to what we personally resonate with as a space of inspiration.

By definition, Inspiration is…

1. the process of being mentally stimulated to do or feel something, especially to do something creative;

2. a sudden brilliant, creative, or timely idea.

3. the drawing in of breath; inhalation. (medical)

I love all of these definitions because they indicate an active component that is necessary for the effect to take place. Everyone has seen, felt or done something that made them yearn to do more, be more and gave them joy. Everyone has had that spark of illumination and the seemingly endless flow of possibilities to act upon. And, everyone has been so taken by something/one that it literally took your breath away and made the next breath deeper and more fulfilled. The writings here will hopefully evoke that power of inspiration within you.

The Buzzword is Still Mindful-ness!

Taisiia/Adobe Stock

There really is something to be said for cultivating a state of mindfulness and the beneficial by-products of simply holding that intention. This doesn’t mean that we have to sit in meditation – although that is the first image conjured with use of the semantic. And, allowing ourselves to be still and quiet is not such a bad thing especially now.

Personally, I have found that just holding the intention that I will be more mind-full and subsequently more present in my day’s activities often does exactly what is needed for me to remain centered and focused, despite what comes my way. I don’t always have time to sit in contemplative meditation, nor do I always have the inclination to use my “spare time” in that way, depending on where my “busy” time has taken me. But, I can always take a breath, form the intention, and breathe out into the space surrounding filling it with the desire for presence, anchoring and strengthening.

So, with these thoughts in mind, you may wish to check out this article for ideas, suggestions and creative ways to step into the presence of Mindfulness. Enjoy!

Inspired Poetry….

Number: 254

The most famous poem by Dickinson, “Hope is the Thing with Feathers” is ranked among the greatest poems in the English language. It metaphorically describes hope as a bird that rests in the soul, sings continuously and never demands anything even in the direst circumstances.

“Hope” is the thing with feathers –
That perches in the soul –
And sings the tune without the words –
And never stops – at all –
And sweetest – in the Gale – is heard –
And sore must be the storm –
That could abash the little Bird
That kept so many warm –
I’ve heard it in the chillest land –
And on the strangest Sea –
Yet – never – in Extremity,
It asked a crumb – of me.

May HOPE flourish and grow in abundance…

Inspirations of the Mother…..

Today we celebrate the Mother….

To be a Mother transcends any biological identification or physical creation

To be a Mother requires a compassionate knowing that has been woven with the fiercest of intentions

To be a Mother is to see from all perspectives while remaining focused on the highest truth

To be a Mother requires sacrifice that has the discernment to know when to put aside self and when to step into your own power

To be a Mother is to hold with care and tenderness all that has been quickened within

To be a Mother there is no right time or wrong time

To be a Mother is to answer the call of your own inner child and…

To Love

To Nurture

To Bring awareness of all that YOU can be into the truth of all that YOU are

We are all Mothers and carry the ferocity and compassion of that moniker in every cell of our Being….

HAPPY MOTHER’s DAY! Step Into Your Power

Inspirations of a Re-Read, A Question and the Longing for Union

Since I have been home with the Shelter in Place directive, I have been re-reading some of my favorite books. Recently I pulled  T. Thorn Coyle‘s book Kissing the Limitless, off the shelf and as always when I read her writings I begin to think more deeply about my own practice. More specifically, thinking of my response to the posed questions of:

“What has set me on this Path? Why am I choosing to do this work?”

Neither of these questions has easy answers and the very nature of their query is one that should change and evolve in accord with the practice we are called to at any given time. But, there is also a certain clarity of purpose that reveals itself through answering the call to service.

If I look beyond the superficial answer, there is no one thing that pulled me in this spiritual direction versus another. I have always been a seeker and have taken many diverse roads; all respectively at some point interweaving with one another and then moving away from their centers of commonality creating new paths to be explored.

The analogy of feeling a “coming home” having affirmed my steps along this path is both true and vague, for this is not a place I have ever left. From a greater perspective, I feel that the collective energies of humanity propel those who choose to listen to the wisdom of the quiet places of inner guidance and stir within a deep longing to contribute positively and effectively.

And, because of this longing, it is no longer a point of “why” I do this work. It is the natural outcome~ and is as organic as breathing. Once connected to this flow and breath of humanity and conscious thought and action, opportunities abound to integrate the practice you have established, the flowers or spiritual wisdom you have collected along the way and the ever-changing quality of service you may offer.

The more intention and focus that is spent in deepening your personal connection to your Divine Self and striving towards a place of balance and union between your human and Divine natures, the more clearly you can see along the Path.

So, in harmony with the energies of Beltane’s recent celebration, I am feeling the longing to consummate the union of these energies within myself. I am filled with yearning to quicken the twin flames of passion and quintessential LIFE and enliven the seeds of renewed dedication in walking my spiritual Path.

May your life be blessed by the Spirit and longing of youth. May it be vibrant with the Fires of Life. And, may you always be open to the expression of Love and ripe with potential for growth.

Six Daily Questions to Ask Yourself While Social Distancing

Sheltering in place and the new routines that come with it can be disorienting. Here’s a list of questions that will help you check in with yourself every day.

As the COVID-19 pandemic spreads, and efforts to “flatten the curve” through physical distancing intensify, many of us find ourselves quarantined at home. The physical isolation and sudden departure from familiar routines can be jarring and disorienting. Settling in for the possibility of an extended shelter-in-place order, I wrote these six “Daily Quarantine Questions” to help me structure my days—and check in with myself, to make sure I’m doing OK. After I shared them on social media, I heard from thousands of people who said that these resonated for them.

3 Rituals for When Life Feels Out of Control

by Lisa Marie Basile – April 10, 2020

Whatever ideas or illusions we have about what we can and cannot control in our lives have been shattered. Here are some ways we can bring some light into this moment of darkness.

A Serenity Ritual for Powerlessness

Growing up, my mother always said the serenity prayer:

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference.

Although neither of us is religious, it always comforted me, especially in times when I felt like life was spiraling out of control. In this ritual, I borrow from that prayer and adapt it to a magical practice.

  • A small item that represents you (e.g., a piece of jewelry or a photograph of yourself)
  • 5 stones from outside or 5 crystals of your choice (smoky quartz works well for clarity of mind and cleansing). They should be cleansed with water or smoke. (Read more in “Caring for Your Crystals.”)

Inspired Reading-Cozy Up to “Enchantments”

This weekend I’m offering a book review that may be just what is needed to inspire some magick. Enjoy!

Enchantments: A Modern Witch’s Guide to Self-Possession by Myra Spalter

Inspired by a New York Occult shop of the same name, Enchantments: A Modern Witch’s Guide to Self-Possession, takes the reader on a virtual tour of the shop, its wares and the accompanying advice and conversation that might be had when looking to craft a beautiful and meaningful altar space, or create sacred space.

The author, Mya Spalter, uses a very warm approach, telling how she came to work at Enchantments store and then taking you on a journey through the highlights of her learning and experiences in working in a busy occult venue. Even the way in which the book has been arranged feels like a coffee break exchange of information of “what works, and what doesn’t?”, “how’d you do that?” and “can you teach me about that?”, that you would expect from most witchy stores and those who work there.

Part One is aptly entitled Witchy Implements and includes chapters dedicated to altars, correspondences, such as colors, plants, herbs and some of the disciplines that would be included in witchy practice such as astrology, the wheel of the year and more.

Part Two reinforces the necessity for Magical Intention(s) and begins the work of spell crafting, protection and divination, and concludes with a more in depth approach to astrological uses and the cosmic connection found within what has traditionally been deemed an earth/nature-based practice.

The book is nicely illustrated with interspersed black and white drawings that are whimsical and informative. And, using a style near and dear to my heart, each chapter concludes with “Suggested Reading” and a list of well respected titles relevant to that chapter’s offerings. I could go on in pointing out sections here and there, but, quite honestly, this is a book to be experienced first hand.

Enchantments: A Modern Witch’s Guide to Self-Possession is the next best thing to having a good friend who will walk you through the magic, point out the highlights and enjoy a cup of your favorite coffee with you. If you are looking for a fun book on witchcraft, that is packed with solid and usable information, this is the one for you!

Inspired Imagination: Writing Prompt

Today’s inspiration is one of creativity. The challenge set forth is to write your own story of a magickal Saturday….

Here are a few starters:

I startled awake from a very joy-filled dream, and …………..

Everything was quiet in the house, when…..

I looked out the window, my attention drawn by…….

Wait a minute! That can’t be…….

Double bubble. I knew my spell was in trouble when….

The door creaked open and …….

You get the idea. Now go be creative and let the magick flow!

Inspired Innocence… Run With It…

What if?

…..You could tap into the innocence of your inner child

What if?

…..You used this time of being at home to dream

What if?

…..You allowed for this space of imagining to arise each day, even after the return to life’s routine crowds is.

I chose this picture for today because it reminds me of the power of slipping into the mind of a child and all the possibilities that manifest from those imaginings. This is a time when everything is new and exciting. This is the place of crafting the “who” you want to be.

The disclaimer here is that I am not speaking of an idyllic childhood that I am all too aware that many did not have. Rather, I am speaking to the power of the mind and imagination to craft the intention it wishes, the space of joy it deserves and the ultimate release of innocence that all children should experience.

So, my inspiration – and challenge – to you today is to reach out to that inner child. Grab onto a small, yet powerful hand and run with the freedom of the possibilities!
